A Trip Abroad for the Sake of Digital Development!

On 15-20 May 2023 the U.S.-Central Asia Regional Digital Trade Working Group visited Malaysia and Singapore. The participants included representatives of public and private sectors of Central Asian countries, including the Republic of Tajikistan.

Our country was represented by Shukuhiddin Abrori, Advisor of the Assistant to President of the Republic of Tajikistan on Economic Issues, Farukh Soliev, Head of Digital Economy Department of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, Manzura Rustamova, Deputy Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan, Furkatullo Ismatulloev, Head of Marketing and Development Department of Bank Eskhata and Firdavsi Nuriddinzoda, Head of HumoLab.

The business event was arranged by international organisations USAID, ADB, CLDP and CAREC.

The Working Group met with representatives of public and private sectors. Delegates from Central Asia had an opportunity to gain a better understanding of ADB’s e-commerce activities in the region, as well as to learn about the best practices of private sector players in the area of e-commerce.

“The trip was very insightful for me as a representative of the bank focused on the digitalisation of business. We visited the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation and learnt  about its digital development model. We also visited large companies actively practising internet sales and toured a cybersecurity centre. We were also invited to Standard Chartered, a transnational corporation offering financial services, which was keen to share its rich experience in the area of digital business and many other companies,” - said Furkatullo Ismatulloev.

Each visit was rounded off with discussions on how to apply international practices. For example, what should be the focus in order to effectively develop the digital economy in the country and model the development of its ecosystem in the field of digitalisation.
